Saururus cernuus propogation questions

I've got lizard's tail in one of my tanks and really love it. The issue I'm having is that it doesn't branch and bottom cuts don't seem to grow well for a really long time.

Is there a way to propogate this in submersed form a little more quickly? I've floated a few stems and they do sprout shoots. Would it work to anchor some bottom cuts to the bottom, horizontally with weights, to increase what I have?

Thanks for any replies.
