Planting

I just got a bunch of stem plants for my 3 gallon tank. This is the first time I have tried to plant anything. I am having trouble getting the stems to stay in the substrate. They keep coming out and floating to the top of the water. It is also very difficult to get my hands in the tank too because it is so small. I currently have it about 2/3 full. Would it be easier if there was less water. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Ah. Welcome to the wonderful world of aquatic plants. You're pretty much doing the right thing, it's a pain in the ass. Use tweezers, and get a punching bag, and hold your breath.

What kind of plants? I had some pesky Anacharis bunches that I held down with some fishing weights(sinkers). This worked pretty well for me, but some would still escape to the surface by way of fish shenanigans
