GLA Complete CO2 Systems

Has anyone used the green leaf aquarium complete systems? It seems this is just putting together all of their pieces. Reviews/opinions?

Good to know.

Any improvements to be made or component upgrades recommended over their bundle systems?

I have the "Primo" regulator with the inline diffuser and absolutely love it. Super precise so far. Money well invested. They also have fantastic customer support.

Overpriced though.

Looks like a single stage regulator for a premium price.

I'm going to argue this. Gla is a retail store. Try to build one of their units and see how much is left over for profit. Orlando doesn't make these in mass production like they do overseas and that means he has to charge more. I'm just glad you are still offered the opportunity to use something that's not made in China.

My opinion excludes their atomic line.

I have never considered their regulators because they are really expensive for what you get. They are all single stage except for their super expensive dual stage and use Fabco needle valves. I have nothing against Fabco needle valves, I use one and it's great but its the one the cheapest useable needle valves you can buy. I understand you are buying a brand new regulator but still, I would rather get a nicely built custom regulator off a member for the same price or less using higher quality components.

Fair enough, if you're willing to buy it that's fin. I just wouldn't recommend it.

He builds them all himself? Even if that's true, it might not be an effective business model. You also have to weigh profit/cost with how much you can sell. All I'm trying to say is that can the same thing for a lot less.

Thatguywiththefish...what would be your recommendation? Basically, I've been running DIY for about 1.5 years (just to try it - I've tried the most manual process of everything in this hobby for knowledge sake) but am now looking to move to a full system.

I'm planning on setting up a new 29g (or a 55 if the GF allows it...unlikely). Price isn't really a concern, but I don't want to pay for more than I need. The GLA systems seemed well put together, but anything can look good on the internet. I'm kind of of the mind that buying a packaged rig would be step 2 in getting to know CO2 after DIY. But if there are obvious upgrades to be made over their stuff, I'd consider it (also obviously consider building my own rig piece by piece if it is the same price or cheaper).

Oh, the irony. Oldpunk himself is a master of the DIY regulator build! Since you like the manual process and would consider building your own rig piece by piece, you owe it to yourself to take a look at his thread! Or look at the eye candy that Bettatail builds. I think this is what ThatGuyWithTheFish means.

It's good to support a vendor if you're not going to do it yourself. But if you're going to build one yourself "for knowledge's sake," then with some patience and luck on ebay (to get a good two-stage (this is the important part!) regulator, you can come out much nicer.

On top of that, I think there's two members selling their 2 stage regulators on the for sale section recently.

All I'm going to say in addition is that if OldPunk himself is sitting here telling you that GLA is good then take that advice...
