That is not a product that is readily available in the US, so I am not sure many of us have tried it. I, for one would like to see one.
You might need to take the plunge, and then let all of us here in the US how it works! Mike

After hooking up my Rena XP2, I decided I wanted to switch from my Hagen Nutrifin diffuser, to the SERA CO2 reaktor. The diffuser is coated with nasty algae...
I got the entire Sera CO2 Basic kit without instructions from a LFS for $20.00. I bought a Rio-90 pump for water flow to go with it. Wasnt sure how to tie off of the output of the XP2 yet. The Sera Reaktor is similar to the DIY reactor. Water and co2 enter the top. About 1/2 inch of mixing area with a divider full of tiny holes. Past the holes are 8 inches of left/right zig-zag sponge material. The water and air mix and smash into small bubbles that shoot down and out of through the sponge paths. The bubbles seem to stick to the sponges paths. Very few bubbles trickle out and the ones that so are salt-sized. Seems to work decent. Now I need to wait until the green velvet algae takes it over. It looks hard to clean. But then again, if it's dirty, I'll end the experiment and make a DIY External Reactor... |

After running a month with it...
I decided to pull it for an external reactor. The Sera was covered with green algae inside and out. As did parts of the water pump. The stair-step foam in the reactor also had pieces of plant sucked inside somehow. Must of had a reverse pressure sometime. If my tank was guarenteed to never have algae, I'd say the Sera Reactor was adequate. Otherwise a DIY vacuum-tube reactor is probably the better choice as you can clean it easier. |
