What kind of snails are they? If the population boomed like that with Ramshorns, it's a sign of too much available food.
There were a couple pond snails- but this is a crazy outbreak of Ramshorns. I remove 20-30 a day from a 6 gal. they are the size of pin heads now, but they will grow.

There was oodles of food available because a bunch of plants died when I dosed with saltwater and left on vaca.

After the abundance of food is gone, they'll slowly die off.

True story. The remaining snails can be used as a gauge of whether you're overfeeding.

The worst that happens when I go on vacation is my pleco gets irritable and tries to do some aquascaping himself.

Well, there ya have it. I rescaped the tank, and added new fishies. Got my hands on H-Class "Tiger" Endler's Livebearer, so neat!

Wish I had not put in those Celestial pearl danios and two more of those instead. Everything seems to be under control again, here is a pic:

I had pond snails sneak in on some plants. I use my long tongs and nab them as I see them. A week of picking them as I enjoy watching my fish and shrimp they are all gone!
