My custom 5 Gallon Long

Hi folks, had been inspired those 12G Long and 3G Long Clubs. Unfortunately, those types of tanks aren't sold here and as I live in Asia, it's gonna cost me more than the tank itself if I had it shipped online. So I did the best next thing, went to the local glass shop and had them built me a 5G Long tank.

Specs:

Dimension:
- 20x8x7 inches (4.73 Gallons), I actually made a mistake, forgot to bring my notes. The intended dimension was 20x8x8 putting it at 5.5 Gallons.

Lighting:
- 6W LED Downlight (x2)

Filter:
- Jebo 501 HOB

Substrate:
- the LFS calls it "aqua-soil", no idea what brand as it was repackaged.

Flora:
- Anubias Baterri
- Amazon Swords
- waiting for LFS to restock on their plants

Fauna:
- Otocinclus (x2)
- Trumpet Snails (x5)
- considering either a betta or some tetras

Decor:
- 2 pieces of driftwoods.

Tank is currently 1 week old.

Great idea. I like it so far. Def needs some more plants but I see u r waiting on lfs.
Might want to put a sponge filter over ur hob intake to prevent mts from being sucked in and destroying impeller.
Has the tank cycled completely?
Kinda looks like Ada soil which gives off ammonia during initial use. Make sure to test frequently to protect your friends. If u see the trumpets snails all up at the top change your water.

Thanks for the compliment jeepguy. And likewise for the heads up on the sponge-filter setup. I had it cycled for 5 days before putting on the faunas. So far the mts have been moving around the floor and climbing the driftwood and anubias. I believe that's a good sign.

Make sure to give your ottos something to eat since you don't have an algae build up for them to eat on yet. I suggest cucumber or zucchini. They will die quick if they starve.

Some more pics.

2 Otos and a snail...

One of the smaller snails who managed to climb up the driftwood on the left side of the tank (top view).

Love the size. Good job doing a lot with little. Are you sure you want those Amazon swords? They get pretty tall.

Will do. You'd probably been wondering why I had the Oto's too early in there. It has a bit of a story there. I ordered them from the LFS, they as they said it would be about 2 weeks before their shipment arrive, they came 2 days later. And since I've only been recently transacting with them I couldn't ask them to hold them for a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the compliment. I've been waiting for someone to ask about the swords. They're temporary until the LFS restock on their plants. I hate to see the tank with just the 3 anubias and couldn't resist planting the only other available plants I can get my hands on.

I've got good news and bad news...

The good news... new tank mates.
4 neon tetras
2 albino corydoras
1 betta splenden

The bad news, the betta is harassing the snails. Probably killed 2 already.

Another betta shot... flaring.

Just picked up this piece of root yesterday and thinking about using it in this tank.
