i love this store. the staff is pretty knowledgeable, and when i was first starting out, advised me in the right direction, even though it meant minimizing their sales off of an eager new aquarist. good to know that not everyone puts the almighty dollar first.

I visited this store last year when I was on tour there.
I thought it was pretty impressive. Huge tanks, lots of well cared for animals. Very cool pond with those flying fish (is that what they were?) The only exception to this was their care of the African Dwarf Frogs and Xenopus frogs when I was there last year. There were rotting corpses in the frog tanks, and being a African Dwarf frog keeper, it really killed me. There were dead frogs with their skin almost all sloughed off. Such a great store, and they leave the dead frogs to rot in the tanks? That really upset me. I told the cashier how horrible it was, and she said she'd tell the manager. |

what band were you in? i used sing for some hardcore band from here but we never made it to the west coast. i'm a dwarf frog keeper too, and those tanks have been fine every time i'm there. let's hope it was a fluke.

Yeah I really hope it was a fluke as well.
It made me sad to see all the other critters looking great, and the frogs in friggin' purgatory. Just like my moniker, the band is Captured! By Robots. We're an all robot band that plays all sorts of stuff (Black metal, hardcore, weird techno, old school funk, etc...) I made robots that play guitar, bass, horns, drums, you know.... www.capturedbyrobots.com We played at the Chameleon, in Lancaster. in the main room, and the lounge a few times.... LOVE JBOT |

I just want to put my two cents in...
I have been extremely dissatisfied with the service and sales at That Pet Place in Lancaster. I signed up for a card and catalog, and started getting notices of sales. I got cards and notices proclaiming a "super clearance sale" in Jan with hundreds of refurbished or discontinued items on sale. I drove two hours to see two tables total... not of aquatic stuff,.. TOTAL.. which constituted the big sale. Another time I purchased Corydoras arcatus. They asked me if I wanted any particular ones (there were hundreds), and I said "as long as they are healthy and acting fine, it's ok". Well,.. they bagged one that was swimming upside down in circles. To me that does not constitute healthy and I would never select a fish in that condition for a customer. However, that said, I have gotten german blue rams there that were in fine condition and bred for me. Overall, however, it's worth the trip to go to Uncle (somethings) store in York(for fish), or to drive to alloddball aquatics in PA. If you are in the central region, Jungle Creek Aquarium in State College also has neat stuff from time to time (although not plants). My two cents. |
