Which should I choose? Is the Eheim 1260 Hobby Pump really worth 2.5 times the cost of the Quiet One 3000? Pros and Cons of each? From reading the specs they look very similar as far as performance ... am I missing something?

TIA

As far as I know, both are really good! Isn't the Quiet one made by Pentair...they are specialiasts in external filtiration...personally, I would go with the Quiet Pump.

Eheim 1260 635 gph 12'1" 65W 1" 3/4" 8.6" x 4.6" x 6.3" 6.0 lbs

Quiet One 3000 Wet / Dry 780 gph 1" MPT / 1" MPT 4.25" x 4" x 4.25" 10.50 ft 2.4 lbs

Lets see...looks like the eheim's only advantage is its max head. I wonder how many watts the Quiet One requires? Other than that, I'd look for some reviews online...the only thing in question is its reliability and durability. I have a smaller Quiet One (I think the 800 model) and its worked well so far. That particular model was a wet only that ran low on water on several occasions. Never saw a decrease in performance (or too much heat being generated).

The Quiet One 4000 was going for $24.99 at Big Al's recently, I bought two. My 'reefer' friend asked why I got the 4000, I said it was because the 3000 was going for $40 there. He said that you can use a ball valve on the output side to "increase the return head" to lower the flow if needed.

I just checked the 4000 is back up to $54.99 at Big Al's.

That Eheim 1260 pump generates a heck of a lot of heat. I was having trouble cooling down my 55g reef when I was using one of those in a sump. I was about to try a chiller when someone suggested a dry QuietOne pump. Max water temps easilly dropped 3 degrees.
I've still got that pump, it will probably run forever, but it's got a pig of a motor.

While digging up as much info as I could before posting here, I found that the Eheim 1260 claims 65W power consumption and the Quiet One 3000 40W. This would probably relate to the 1260 being capable of slightly higher head pressure too. Looking at the output graphs it looks like they are very close at 6 feet though ... approx. 430 gph vrs. 400 gph.

Great info, thanks!

Can you please tell me how the sound/noise levels compare?

Sorry for going off topic, but didn't Big Al's prices are going up right after they re-did their website?! Did they use that as an excuse to raise their prices, or are they losing money...? :?

That pump is the only one that went up in price recently. I don't know about anything else on the site, or even the time span in which you are speaking of.
