Hello Pisces, try fishworld in Bluesprings MO for your substrate. Talk to Jeff, great store owner, cheap prices. The cheapest place I have found Eco complete. If you are also looking for a used tank locally take a look at fishheads. A local SW forum but there are always people getting rid of tanks.

PM me if you are in need of some plant cuttings.

i'll chime in for the MO folks. i live in STL and i go to aquaworld, tropical world and pet market place for my stuff. everynow and then i will go to beltds and see what they have. malawi aquatics is REALLY neat but its alittle far out from me. Plus not to mention the petsmart that i here ( used to work at one ) and i stoill have friends at all the stores so the discounts are welcome.

There are more than a few folks in the St Louis area but I don't think that enough of them will come out at any one time meet on a quarterly or monthly basis to swap plants and talk about their experiences and set-ups. I'm willing to keep track of those interested so speak you mind

The Missouri aquarium society has a great Horticulture awards program (HAP) as well as a lot of very knowledgeable plant folks. I am new to the plant side of things but seeing all those plants for sale at the monthy meetings and auctions has got me interested. It is free to attend the meetings and a membership is only $20.00 per year. It's a great place to meet fish/folks. I highly recomend if you are close to STL at all that you check it out.

You are correct about the Missouri Aquarium Society. They have meetings on the third Thursday of every montha and there are usually plenty of plants and fish that are donated to the club for auction at the meeting. There is plenty of experience there to share as well.

Be sure to check the web site to make sure there is a meeting and for special events like auctions - great way to get rid of unneeded hardware, plant trimmings and fish.

Default Hello from Wright City

Hi, I just found this forum. Glad to know there are some Missourians involved.

I am a gardener (dirt) and thought this would be an easy extension of that (boy was I wrong), but am learning so very much.

I'm now at the stage that I have all the equipment and really ready to do some heavy planting, but no plant stores....Thanks for all the tips on stores - I was feeling very frustrated with calling places and hearing that they had plants but weren't sure what kind....

Hi, I am in the OFallon, MO area.

I have been getting my plants from Petland in Lake St Louis. They have a pretty good selection and the manager even grows some of the plants himself. I am fairly new to planted tanks, so what I consider a good selection might not be, but they seem to have as many plants as they do fish.

On a side note, how close can I or should I plant anubias to each other? I recently did a major overhaul(last night) on my 55g and really like anubias. Now I need to fill in the tank with more plants.
