I don't have a lot to complain about living here in the mountains. That said, while shopping online is okay, the shipping cost, inability to visually inspect what I'm purchasing or having an experienced seller to bounce questions off is a negative. Not to mention the nearest legitimate LFS is a solid 1.5 hours away.

I'm new to this forum but have lurked and learned lots from TPT and other similar sites and couldn't live without it!

Mountains to Sea Aquarium, Asheville NC. Great LFS, my favorite.

The Asheville Aquarium unfortunately shut down about a year ago.

There's one other somewhere around Asheville..I wasn't impressed.

Default Hi guys

I live just north of Durham. U can check out Triangle Tropical Fish. They are in Durham, and post what they get in on there web site. I got some sweet Amazon Swords there, and the people are nice. They have been in Durham a long time.

+1 to what Bartolomeussin said. Mtns to Sea Aquarium is great. Don't expect to walk in and find a huge supply of freshwater fish and plants, but Shawn the owner takes a lot of orders. I've had great success with her in the past. Great LFS.

Aquarium & Imports, south of Asheville in Arden also offers up a decent selection of freshwater fish and plants.

I drive as far as west as Burlington for work and as Far East as Roanoke rapids. The best plant stock I've found is in (believe it or not) the petsmart at midway shopping center in Knightdale, nc. You can call ahead but they usually have nice plants and their stock is reasonably priced IMO.

I got some dwarf hair grass there the last time I visited. Nothing brown... All green and healthy. It's growing nicely and it's only been a week.

Thanks for the info. I've made it to the other store in Asheville called ALSM and I think they mostly focus on their maintenance business but do open like two days a week for retail sales. I'll have to hit up Mountains to Sea and Aquariums & Imports sometime.
