75G Discus Beach Journal

Hi all,

Here is my planted tank and my family of discus. I call it the 'discus beach' because they are the 'show' fauna in the tank (4 discus). Other fauna include: 10 otto's, 5 gold rams, 1 blue ram, 25 cardinal tetras.

I couldn't even begin to identify all the plants in the tank for you (although you can expect in a weeks time to see an update with proper names as I take time to identify them). I used ADA Amazonia Aquasoil for the substrate.

Cheers,
Tom

The only reason I went for a 75G was because my LFS was out of the 55! I was thinking 75G was going to be difficult as this is my first tank - but I'm sure glad because the depth is very nice.

Looks nice. I like your planting arrangement. I think your fish will appreciate the cover as well.

yea so lucky it was the other way around for me, had a bunch of buddies selling 55 and couldnt find anything on craigslist for a 75 at the time so just got a cheap 55 gallon from a buddy. I like it but its just not much to work with. Kind of glad I got it because most apartments I have moved into allow up to 50 gallon max and I just tell them the 55 is a 50 gallon lol

The rams love the cover the most from what I've seen so far. They hover around and under the leaves. The night time activity is amazing with the blue lighting

well technically im sure your 55 gallon holds less than 50 gallons once you add substrate, plants, ornaments ect.

LFS (Big Al's). It was quite a bit of work to introduce them into my system as the LFS runs the pH at 7.6

Your last picture gave me a mini heart attack as at first microsecond glance I thought they were gasping at the surface.

LOL. Not sure why the photo uploaded that way. I'll have better pictures (non-phone) ones of them this coming week. I replcaed the old photo with this one. It was prior to redoing some of my scape as you can notice glosso in the corner rather than hairgrass

@du3ce - What makes you think that? They're all ~3inches, far from grown adults.

I'll get more pictures of each individual discus this week when I'm home (away at work until August 3rd). First time owning discus so very willing to learn and better understand them. Do you have discus?
