my eheim ecco 2231 is loud as hell

.... is my canister filter defective??/ it's so loud...i thought eheims were supposed to be quiet.... is there something i'm forgetting to do?

Never had an ecco, but my classics are dead silent.
maybe check to make sure impeller is seated properly.

eccos are reputed to be not quite as quiet as the simpler models, but it shouldn't be very loud at all. I'd follow Wolfen's advice and reassemble the impeller head parts and if it doesn't improve, send it back. (Because we all have spare cycled filters around, right?)

I have a 2231, 2233 and 2235 and they are quiet as can be. Take it apart and make sure the impeller is seated properly. You can also try gently tilting it back and forth to see if there is air caught in it.

You got snails in that tank? could be a snail in a valve seat or impeller or nearby.

My Ecco is dead silent.

i jsut checked it, the impeller is chipped in several places.....is that a big enough thing to cause all that racket??

ahh yes, you know, the impeller is chipped right...so where did the chips go??? i'm betting it fell in somewhere in the filter..above the impeller (perhaps the box was upside down) now i gotta go find those chips...hehe

Call Eheim right away to ask about a replacement for that.

Take it right away to the store or call the online supplier. Sometimes things get damaged. they ought to replace promptly. they might want the broken one back.

my friend figured out what happened..you know how there's a white stick and black bushings on both sides??? well the one that's on top is fused with the welling...i can't get it out..... it's suppposed to be free......anyway, i tried to return to bigals...but they won't let me......they tell me to take a screw driver and stick it in there and then pull it out that way..... and they told me "sit tight" ....what the heezy??

Fused? Any chance you ran it with the valves closed for short time and it heated up?

That'd be my first question if I was the vendor, or it could be a manufacturing error, but not so likely with Eheim.

Ok I came back home and i checked it...a friend told me that it was fused..but it's not...one thing though..it is very tight in there... and i had to get a screwdriver to pop it out. is it supposed to be real tight in there?? or loose??? they told me that the impeller is the only moving so that would be the only thing making the noise.... odd.... i can't for the life of me figure out why it's making so much noise though..... i oiled up the bushings and the shaft.....it's a lil less noisy...but still noticeable...people say they can't tell whether it's on or off unless they look at the plug...but me, i can tell when it's on

So you are getting a replacement impeller from Great Al? Hope that one will do the trick, otherwise I would just return it to them.
