That looks really good so far. I don't know if you ever mentioned what your plants are that are in there. You should add some astilbe as they love being in waterlogged soil and produce some very nice color. I also have Houttuynia cordata (chameleon plant) in my bog garden which is very good for bog gardens if you don't mind a plant that is a weed in every sense of the word. I have been thinking about making my bog garden a little bigger but never have the time. I try some plants by the edge of my pond and some just seem to grow better in the bog garden that has soil as the sediment instead of the gravel that they get planted in being in the pond.

1. arum lily zantedeschia aethiopica
2. canna pretoria
3. irish moss sagine sagina sublata

Do those plants survive through the winter and come back in the spring?

some will like the Iris, grasses, lilies, succulents, hens and checks, creepy jenny,

I need to identify and look up a few more to know for sure. I am in zone 4 to 5

I am thinking about the idea of building a green house like structure over top to give it a zone or two higher climate over winter to see if that can let me grow more plants year round.

got a gift for my bog yesterday

Thanks, I took a look at your pond setup and it's amazing looking. My pond (3 rd I have built at 2 houses) is now where near as big as I would like it and struggling with water clarity but it fits in the back of the yard in the only space I have left. bog is in the front yard.

If we move again, I plan on a huge bog (filter), koi pond, and get it professionally installed. I have hand built and dug all my filters and ponds and I would rather focus on the plant selection and fish setup then the manual labour part.

my first pond with bog water fall setup this worked out very well and all plants in the bog bare root planted and grow very well that way.

2nd pond

my current pond

Took down a tree I front of the house and now have space to expand the garden to connect to the bog. I plan to incorporate the stump into the new perennial garden possible a focus on succulents only.

bog has grown in very well.

plan to add flag stone patio and a large mound garden bed with creeping plants down all sides and sitting area. the middle bed will likely be succulents low growth.

I plan to compost the pile of earth (some weeds and grass) over the winter under a plastic sheet for planting next spring. Will see how this works.

Looks like you are having fun! I turned over a lawn and added leaves and such to compost one winter. It worked well.

That's very pretty. I adore bog gardens and had plans to make one at my last house but then we moved. No room for one here.
