It might be. I'd be on the lookout for mold. Usually shows up as white spiderweb looking stuff in the substrate.

you win the most phallic layout award, for sure.

on the serious side, I like seeing the DSM method with plants other than HC / glosso. Want to see what this looks like all filled in! Have plans for anything other than the parvula?

I looked into my dsm thinking I had white mold on the rocks..so I panicked and flooded the tank!

I hope my dhg doesnt die. My rocks have some algae due to dsm over time hours.. any tips on what I should keep up to? Currently have a zoomed 501 attached and dosed some excel till I can recycle enough cans to buy a co2 system.

Hi jjt (fellow canadian!),

I completed a DSM (which later failed due to neglect resulting from basement construction) that was fairly successfuly. In my opinion the biggest factor to growth week over week was water saturation - by that I mean not too much. I would check to make sure no pools of water were forming, and if I did find a pool of water I would soak it up in paper towel and not mist the following two days, I ran a 6 hour photoperiod during this time. Just to add some credit to my comments I've attached two pictures of the DSM i did (before at week 1 /after at week 8) even tho none of the HC is being used in my tank anymore

Nope - too much anger caused by HC failures.

Got my pressurized DIY kit installed today! Decided not to go with a pressurized tank since this system is well over what I need and does not cost hundreds..
1 refill lasts about one and a half month to two months!! Im hoping it will do 3 months. Im running co2 day and night and im wondering roughly how many bps I should do so that I get optimal co2 and at the same time minimizing ph dropping at night. Thanks for the help!!

Regulator and pressure release valve. Citric Acid in 1 bottle and baking soda in the other.

Bubble counter with check valve

Bubbles

Easy hiding spot

You could do Neos. I wouldn't do any harder species because of the DIY co2.

Added 5 cherry shrimp and 6 cardinal tetras. Set my co2 to 1 bubble every 10 seconds. A bit conservative but im worried about gassing my shrimps (should I go for more? I had it on 1 bubble for every 3 seconds before adding shrimps but now im dilemma of gassing shrimps or getting algae!) Ty for inputs
