Show me your 40B stand!

Could not resist. Bought a 40B at the Petco sale. Going to start hunting for stands. Looking for something that looks like actual wood furniture. Not really interested in the typical black aquarium cabinet.

I got the same fish tank on sale! The stand is custom built from scratch. I just finished painting it yesterday. Also made it a inch bigger on each side, to make it seem like it wasnt just one big piece of furniture

That looks nice too. I have no DIY inclination nor desire or room to purchase a bunch of tools unfortunately.

Here's one I built a little bit ago (project indefinitely on hold, but the stand is ~90% done (need to do another seal coat, and finish up some details on the inside)).

Almost all 2x4s and 2x3s, and really overbuilt. I'm fully confident it could hold several 40B's worth of weight. Just used a circular saw and drill for the assembly (and a pockethole kit, but if I planned the assembly better, I could have done without it), and a propane torch and nylon scrub brush for the finish. The tank sits down inside it, and that outer bit covers the foam, frame, and maybe bottom 1" or so of substrate. Also has about a 5-6" shelf in back, so I can support whatever.

If you don't have tools, you can get wood cut at most places, it's just not always a terribly accurate cut (depends on the place/person/etc.). If need be, you can even cut 2x4s with a cheap hand saw, it just takes a lot more effort. I'd be loathe to do the assembly without a power drill, even though I built a couple stands in college just using a hand saw and leatherman. :/

Nice thread. I too made a recent 40b tank purchase! I appreciate the inspiration.

Alot depends on your budget. honestly you will have a very hard time finding a reliable stand that is not black since your not wanting to DIY. I bought this one from petco's website yesterday for the 40 gallon breeder i'm picking up tomorrow. For the price and reliability it is a steal.
$135.99 shipped to your door is a freakin steal for a 40 gallon breeder stand that is reliable. Even DIY your looking at $100+

My budget for a nice piece of furniture that is going in the main living area? $500 or so for normal wood, more if it was some sort of exotic.

Locally? $500 would get me a ratty piece of pine with a crooked door and that's only if I can find someone willing to take the time in the first place.
