Very nice looking tank. Are you going to tear it down? I couldn't tear that nice a tank down.

Thanks for complimenting the tank. No I won't tear it down, it will remain a home for the breeding pair of kribensis and the rummy nose tetras. I read that when breeding it's good for the male to have some fish to chase away as this gives him something to do and an outlet for his aggression. I also read that you have to separate them from their fry after two months because the old fry will be seen as a threat when the parents are ready to breed again. Already they have been exploring more with out their parents protection so I guess in nature they'd probably be starting to head for other pastures. It's been pretty fun to watch them growing up and what involved parents they have, I just hope I'll be able to find them all other homes.

I still like tanks like these more than the Amano setups. Very nice setup you have.

About 6 weeks after these guys (photo above) were born the parents turned on them, chasing them around and interrupting their eating so I moved them to a five gallon tank temporarily while I set up my new 38 gallon.

Also about this time the parents dug a new hole and I figured they were getting ready to breed again. They did. I did not think I would get another batch so soon.

I had originally planned to relocate some other fish to the new 38 gallon but decided it will house all these guys (batch one and batch two) as they grow up enough to be sold.

Second batch is still doing well.

Now the parents and fry only share the tank with an otto.

Did a major trim of this tank.

It felt wierd to throw out this much plant matter but the leaves of the rotala indica were getting very narrow.

About two weeks ago I had my third batch now of kribensis fry.

Set up another 20 gallon in the basement for batch number 2.

I hope to be able to sell these guys to local fish stores but don't have any experience doing that. How much do you think they are worth after they've grown out a little more?

Most LFS won't pay you, but will give you store credit. If you are lucky you will get around 1/3 of their selling price in store credits, but that's when you are lucky.

I usually see these guys for $6-$7 around town. If I could get 1/3 of that for all of them that I have even if it is only store credit I would be very happy. I have 40-50 in each batch though. I'm concerned they'll only want a handful at any one time.

Moved the hairgrass to the 38, shortened and moved the big baby tears to the front middle and put the foxtail inbetween the two big rocks. Put back in the three little rocks on the right.

Momma died of callumanus parasites and I think it may have spread to the father. At first when I saw it I thought it must just be something that happens to aging momma fish because the little worms coming out of her vent looked like something anatomically part of her like hair but I guess fish don't have hair after all. Treating the whole tank with some Jungle parasite clear now. Will try fenbendenzerol next if necessary.

Ended up using 2 treatments of levamisol and lots of big water changes, no signs of callumanus for 2 months now. Since everything was removed to make treatment easier, I converted this to a grow out tank for trimmings from my 38. Got a used CO2 rig here on tpt, will never go back to sugar and yeast.

A few months ago the solenoid went bad so I sent it down to Florida for a replacement and also to put on a triple manifold. Now this tank is part of a TWO STORY RACK that starts in my basement and ends in my living room.

From the bottom up:
Hospital Tank, 30 Gallon grow-out tank, now with Oil Dri substrate instead of dirt and sand (no fish yet, just MTS and a couple of assasins that I painstakingly screened out of the old dirt), then 20 gallon grow-out tank, then the third CO2 line goes up to my living room through a hole in the floor to a 5 gallon Dwarf Puffer tank.

The 5 gallon Puffer tank received a new Finnex Fugeray 16" LED, new black diamond blasting grit substrate, and rescape as part of the project. The DHG came out of my 38 gallon because it was getting dug up a lot by the inhabitants in there. The Myrio. mattogrossense is temporary. The DHG is not adjusting so easily so it might become an all Riccia tank.

Also as part of this project I improved the shelve this tank sits on in my living room that sits on two big old speakers and spans a radiator. Originally it was just two pieces of 3/4" plywood. At first it was intended only to hold house plants and was not level and sagged in the middle. My puffer tank cracked probably because of a bouncing floor and the wood turning into sort of a teeter totter. So I leveled the speakers, glued and screwed the two boards together, stained them and applied 4 coats of polyurethane (they were stained before but not sealed) then ran an 8' X 1 1/2" piece of aluminum to strenghten and trim the front edge and put a 8' X 1 1/2" piece of slotted angle iron underneath that buts up to the back of the speakers.

5 gallon DP tank turned into an all riccia scape, We'll see how long I can keep with the trimming. Also put in a zoomed turtle filter.

Love this. How did you keep the Riccia down?
