Shrimp Tank Substrate

Has any one mixed the CaribSea Eco-Complete African Cichlid Substrates with regular substrate. It says on the bag that it keeps the tank at a higher ph than what you would want for shrimp, and continually buffers the tank, that is why I thought about mixing it with other substrates.
I used to keep an open mind but my brains kept falling out.
