fert question

hey guys im asking this here cause its the new york section and we have the same water.

If the phosphate levels from tap are at 2.0 phosphate and my target range for KH2PO4 ( phosphate ) is 1.7 ...then i shouldnt dose KH2PO4 . i can cut it out of my dosing regimen until it goes lower than the target range.

am i correct in this ? i have switched over to dry ferts and am wondering.....

thank all

Are you dosing for high light EI? I tend to keep the phosphates up regardless of what the tap measures. I find that skimping on the phosphates brings about GSA.

yea i want to run all 4 bulbs ( 216 watts ) ... well 2 bulbs are actually used as a burst for a couple hours .... but

been dosing for 2 weeks and the first week i started i just dosed what the regimen called for...kno3/kh2p04/k2so4... but before i did my first water change i tested and my phosphates were through the roof!!! i mean it was 10.0 on the chart !

so ... my question is i should just dose what i need to keep the levels lets say above what i need correct ? not just dose everything 3x a week like a mad scientist....

example.....

if i dose kno3 ( nitrate ) on day 1 and my nitrate test says they are at 20..i should not dose kno3 for the rest of the week... correct ?

might be a stupid question but .....

If the plant growth is good, the nutrient uptake will match the plant growth. If you're using that much light and pumping CO2 in your tank, the plants will use all the available nitrate in a day or two if you only dose once a week. Bottoming out on the nitrates with high light and CO2 is a surefire way to get algae.

Modify your dosing to your plants needs and see how much of the macros they use. If your nitrates are sky high, reduce the amount of nitrates you add to the tank. Same goes for phosphates. If you're starting to see deficiencies or certain algae, add more.

what tank size are you dealing with?

I find EI something doable in a small tank but in large tanks, the sheer volume of whater needing to be changed is just insanity for anyone with a family and busy work schedule.

Right.. thats why i dont want to just toss a certain amount of said ferts in the tank 3x a week . From what i understand when you start dosing it assumes your tank is at zero everthing then the ei method tells you to dose x to acheive x by weeks end.
But if your tank allready is high in a certain fert through the tap water then you dont need to dose that fert unless you go under the recommended amount needed for that fert to have enough for plants...

example....phosphate out of tap in nyc is 2.0 ... so can maybe dose kh2po4 once to go above the recommended 1.7 ..

Its a 67 gallon....and your prob right too much light but i only use the second pair of bulbs as a noon burst for an hour or so

Most of those are fast growing stems and will definitely suck the macros out of your water when growing good.
