Purigen jump my nitrate

So I add purigen almost a week back

Test the water last week at 40ppm nitrate..

Just did a test a hour ago, @ 80 ppm!! super red on the chart!

Fish are okay and eating like kings..nothing has change expect I clean the canister on the day I put the purigen bag..and it has been weeks

I notice the water has become so clarity now!! so clear that light are shinning through...

any idea on the high nitrate?

I usually get high nitrate at 40pmm at least before adding the bag..

Some tests do not last very long.
Why not repeat the test, but shake all the reagents twice as long as they say to in the instructions.

Other than that, do a 50% water change, and see if the NO3 drops by anything like 50%. Then do another one. That should make the NO3 something like about 20 ppm, which is a much easier color to see. I cannot tell the difference in all those deep pink to red tones. If it is any of those shades, I do not bother trying to sort it out, I just do a water change or two.
