Question

brown, dying patches in Taiwan moss...

Starting a couple days ago, there are suddenly brown patches showing up all over the Taiwan Moss... and quickly spreading.. I haven't changed any settings and I've done nothing different. I looked closely, and it's definitely not brown algae... the moss itself is turning brown and dying, starting from the center stems.

I dropped in some liquid fertilizer yesterday, but no signs of recovering yet...

What's going on?

I had something similar to this happen to my java moss recently. I thought it looked like it was slowly dieing. But I do think it was algae. I treated the tank for algae as I had some other fuzz algae growing and it also seemed to fix the brown java moss problem. I'm not sure but I think it was small coat of algae on the tiny leaves of the the java moss.

i have had moss from aqua magic arrive like that. its likely due to deficiencies either in light, clean water , fertilizer or heat.

Once a plant starts to melt, it is like cancer and spreads. best to trim liberally and relocate the spared portion .

Just did a 50% water change, clipped off most of the brown moss, added some more liquid ferts... hopefully things will improve.

While the moss seems to be recovering into a darker green, the java FERNS in my tank are all quickly browning, leaf by leaf....

What is going on...? Do I actually need to change the bulb or something (it's 2 and a half years old)? I doubt it's this reason.

All of the java ferns in the tank are quickly browning, not just one patch.
