when do U replace your PC bulbs?

please answer honestly what YOU do, not what you should do

if you replace under 12, between 12, 18, 24, over 24 Months,
then still participate anyway by rounding to the nearest answer.

this question is for Power Compact Fluorescent users only, nothing else.

regardless mean automatically replace the bulb no matter how bright.

I have been told whenever the bulb dies which I did just that but I noticed a huge difference and the 96 watt bulb went dim in just under a year. I know this has been discussed before on the forum with allot of mixed views.

Rex, can you link me to the last one?
I remembered one a few Months ago
but the answers were too ambiguous,
or I could not get the right search keys.
I hope you will participate anyway.
just takes two mouse clicks

Wow, a forum full of dedicated plant growers,
and most of them wait till their bulbs go out.
I'm surprised
Come on people, only 2 mouse clicks to vote!

an interesting 2 year old thread on this issue;
http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/li...ange-your.html
especially if you bulb change under a year.

Intensity of a CF actually decreases by 30% within the first 3 to 6 months. The variance in time is due to manufacturing differences.

After that it levels off exponentially until "death".

So why change early ?

Well, if you have calucated your WPG (watts per gallons) based on the full rated output of your lights, then depding on your original target of either 2, 3, 4, 5, or higher WPG, you may find yourself on the low end of what you thought you had after 3 to 6 months.

Always take this into account when setting up your target WPG.
