First tank (12" cube) after years of admiring.

Hey Planted Users!

So I have finally gotten the chance to build my own planted tank after years of oogling at pictures of tanks. I have done extensive research and always find myself getting the best information from here so why not share the love and start my first nano journal! I built a kit, changed it about 50 times then finally impulse ordered the Fluval Flora. The next day I found a LFC in NYC that is fantastic and they helped me create my original plan and helped me with the price a lot. So my Flora showed up today and is getting shipped right back and I couldnt be more excited to actually have my cube.

So here is what I got for a set up:
Tank: 7.5 gal 12x12x12 rimless cube
Lights: 1x Innovatice Marine LED 12' 10k (plan on getting a second next)
Filter: Aquaclear 20
Heater: I cannot think of the name but it is a 4" heater that holds at 78
Co2: Fluval mini pressurized 20g (plan to upgrade to a larger kit or DIY eventually)
Substrate: Fluval Stratum
Plants: Getting them on Tuesday but going dwarf tear carpet, dwarf hairgrass, and 2 other medium/small stemmed plants I cannot remember the name of currently.

So this is where Im at today for a quick set up and Im going to take the next 2-3 days tweaking it and perfecting it before planting Tuesday! Let me know your thoughts!

Hey thanks for the welcome! I am grabbing my plants at Pacific. I didnt know there were swap meets. How often and what kind of plants do you guys have kicking around? Im having one hell of a time trying to get my hands on Myriophyllum mezianum.

Just got home and going to do a little more tweaking to the tank. Thinking about raising the floor up a bit more in the back right behind the wood.

If you don't find what you're looking for at swap meets, check out the For Sale section here on the forum.

So I planted my tank finally yesterday. I went with 2 pots of HC, 2 pots of dwarf hairgrass, 2 pots of Anubias barteri 'Petite', and 1 other larger looking anubias barteri. Im all drugged up from a cold I have so the exact name is slipping my mind right now. I used 2 gallons of my buddies planted tank water and the rest I used water I purified and added bacteria in with. I started my lighting and co2 cycling yesterday too. My question now is should I start fertilizing and if so what would you all suggest? Also should I add ammonia and what not even if I used already established and healthy water?

Yea one of the reasons I snagged it. Hoping once the hc carpet happens the light and dark will play well with the light grey rock. Just got ei ferts in the mail and checked the tank water conditions. Day 2: ph 6.0 nitrite: 0.5 nitrate 20. Day 3(today) ph6.2 nitrite 0 nitrate 20
