No power for 7 hours. I hope my tank buddies survive.


What's 7 hours without power gonna do without any oxygen exchange going on?

The fish will swirl the water at the surface if it starts getting a bit low. Remove any floaters, open lids and you can take a cup and scoop and pour water to agitate the surface if you want.

During sandy at least once a day I would take my net and give thw tank a nice big swish. Only lost one oto and 2 shrimp

You can always do small water changes to control temps and add oxygen.

I have a battery powered air pump for this sort of time, runs on 2 D's (or c's, not sure) They sell them at the petco/petsmarts I think.

There is also a relay driven version to come on automatically if the wall power fails

Tap is not highly aerated. It often comes loaded with lots of dissolved nitrogen, not o2

Well all is good. Thankfully. Didn't notice any dead tank buddies. Shrimp or fish but i didn't have much time to check the tank before i left this morning

Get a large container, fill with tank water and place above the tank then set up a slow drip with a knotted airline and some clothespins/clamps so the water constantly has a bit of a ripple on it for oxygen exchange. If you use the tank water then if the container empties the tank won't overflow!
