My new planted 10 gallon tank.

Hey everyone. I'm new to freshwater and planted tanks.

About 2 weeks ago I picked up a standard 10 gallon tank.
A week ago I finally found some caribsea flora max substrate. I picked up a few plants, some petrified wood. And 3 diamond tetras.

My light is a 18" t8 full spectrum light.

Still not sure what to do as to stock the tank. But here are some pictures for now.

Also I didn't add. I have a fluval 20. For a filter. I figured the sponge, carbon, and bio media would prolong the life of everything In my tank besides a traditional just sponge. Though I wish it had a bit more flow. Supposedly it pumps out 80 gph but doesn't seem to.

Welcome to the forum , nice start on your tank. What plants do you have growing at the moment ?
I love that piece of petrified wood !

Well as for the plants.. I think I tossed the packages. But the one on the left is a fern. And not entirely sure about the other. It came in a long strip from petsmart. I'll look them up tomorrow. And thanks there are actually two pieces in there. Took alot of thought to pick where I wanted them and how. I have a piece of driftwood I'll be adding but currently soaking all the tannis out.

Update;
So I added some dwarf hair grass to fill in some of the substrate. Also picked up some API liquid co2 to add every day.

I also bought out of impulse some Kyoto as petco liked to call it. But after some research when I got home. It's not a fully aquatic plant.. So that sucks.. Maybe I'll move it to a planter and put it in the window..

Also my tank seems to have a white haze. I'm hoping it goes away within the week. It's a new tank and I guess it's because of the bacteria bloom. Or over feeding I feed twice a day with my diamond tetras and they act like they are starving when I feed them. Is this normal??

Last thing. I can't find the packaging for my other plants so I have no idea what they are. But the small ones do seem to be growing already. Some new leaves started to sprout.

Update 5-22-2013,

So I picked up 4 glass shrimp about a week ago. I was worried about the diamond tetra tryin to eat them, but luckily they don't bother them.
And yesterday I picked up some stricta and I'm hoping it will fill out nicely.

And I've decided to just let the plants grow out and I'll probably take out the driftwood and add some more petrified wood. Make a little cave and a few cliff like spots to the left of the tank.

If you want to add some other types of shrimp later make sure you take out the glass shrimp, they have nasty pincers

the tank looks cool, did you used to do saltwater?

Yeah I used to have a saltwater tank. Had it up and running for a year with no real problems.

And thanks for the heads up with the shrimp.
