The one with and one without the flash. The biggest amano shrimp is a good 1.5 inches. When I got them, they were not even half inch. I actually thought I lost them all to fish cause I would wake up and find pieces of the shells on the ground (fish nibbling) and never saw them. Then one day they starting popping out of different holes in the driftwood. Didn't even realize the holes were that big.

So I decided to go with Rummy-nose tetras, 31 of them. Will be adding 10-20 probably. I get my roselines back this week too. Here are a couple updated shots of tank.

Right after adding my first live plant in an old aquarium years ago, I vowed I would always use "real" decor. No fake wood, ships, rocks, anything. You could always tell they were fake, and for me, just threw off the look. I always wanted to capture the look as if you were in a lake or something, and have it look like if you just put you head underwater and opened your eyes. The other week I was walking in a pet store with my son and in the reptile section, they had this crocodile skull (top half), and it looked good. Even some of the inner skull around the eyes was done to look real. So we bought it and put it in. I figure crocs die in the wild and their bones would sink. After about a week, it darkened (was bright at first) and looked killer. I had notice on the box it came in, they also made primate ones, again just the top half. So I got 2. I love the look!!!!! They too will darken in about a week.

while your fish will appreciate the skulls as caves, i like the tank better without them. but if you like them, keep them. the tank is in your house after all.
but if a primate fell into water with crocodilians, they would be eaten, and their bones would be crushed and broken and swallowed too. and that definitely goes for the crocodile skull. a major cause of prereproductive death in crocodiles is cannibalism by larger older crocs.

I get the natural dislike of artificial stuff in a natural tank, but frankly the skulls look really good in there and I think you did a great job placing them. While they may not make sense, who cares, the overall look is still superb.

TPT says I'm an algae grower... I'd like to think of myself as one hell of a Cabomba farmer.

It has been a while, and I have made some changes. Here is the latest layout. This is a month or so ago. I will have to get better pics. Now the skulls are not bright, with algae and whatnot on them, so the have that look of being there a long time and don't stand out as much. My fish are now - ~30 rummy nose, ~30 balloon lamp eyes, 3 clown loaches, 2 SAEs, 4 german blue rams, 2 bristlenose plecos, ~15 amano shrimp, 1 rainbow shark, and 8 Roaselines.

Also, got a new toy. RC sub by Air Hogs (only at toys r us). About 3 inches long.

I have one plant in the skull growing out the top hole, and looks like there is at least one leaf trying to make its way through an eye.

Bored....changed things. Also added 20 more rummy nose, 3 Siamese algae eaters, and an orange dwarf crayfish. Will be looking for more, different plants soon to add.

The substrate is from aquariumplants.com. I used 3 five gallon buckets worth. So much cheaper than going with some of the other stuff, especially in a big tank. They only had this color when I got it years ago, but now they have more.

Wow!! It was also a lot cheaper when I bought it. I think I paid only $39 for a 5 gallon bucket. But, I still would buy it again. I love this color, but want to play with others. Guess that just means a new tank. I am glad they sell it in different sizes, I doubt the wife will let me get another big tank.
