no green thumb:/

20L. High light. 2bps of pressurised CO2

so for some reason when I do stuff to my tank everyday meaning trims and adding in ferts I have little plant growth and little algae. when I leave my tank for like a week with no addition of ferts I get a crapload of growth and a lot of algae. I don't get it. I don't think I have a green thumb.

What light are you using and what type of timer is it on?
How are you diffusing CO2?
What type of filter/powerheads/etc are you using?
What's the plant density like?
What kind/how old is the soil that you're using?
What is your dosing regimen?
Is the water warmer or cooler?
How much surface agitation is there?

-using a t5HO 48 watts
-diffusing through glass diffuser
-filter is a 206 which has more filtration than I need
-medium plant density, still waiting for hairgrass to fully carpet
-Flourite soil 6 months old
-2 ml each day pps-pro(micros &macros)
-76 degree water
-lily pipe is halfway out of water so decent oxygenation

I don't get how plants grow better when I don't do anything to the tank

How high is that light from the water surface and what brand is it? What kind of bulbs?

I know I use a 2x24W fixture on mine and have no issues growing plants. Granted, it's right on top of the tank. Check and see how your CO2 distribution is. It may not be adequate. Ferts and soil should be fine. You may want to add root tabs throughout the flourite since it won't have much in the way of nutrients from the get-go.

the light is probly ~15 inches. its a current usa brand fixture. the one light is current usa 10k and the other is coralife 67k. co2 spread should be pretty good as my diffuser is located right under outflow so it blows it around the tank. I'm looking into root tabs! the plants are growing, its just weird how they grow much better when I wasn't adding fertz everyday since I was home from school.
