Rock ID


Hi,please help me with these question,tks
1)Is this coral bones?if not,is it ok to use it in plant tank?


2)Can anubias attch to this rock?

I'm not certain, but I'd suspect the first two are some sort of calcite... - see if you can scratch it with a nail (or other pointy steel thing). If you can, it's not quartz based, and is likely calcite.

You can also try the acid test, which tests for carbonates (acid reacts with -CO3, produces CO2), but it's not very reliable (a lot of rocks don't noticeably fizz,etc.)

Cant say for the last one, it looks like it could be limestone from the way that it's weathered, but nothing really indicative.

I'm pretty sure anubias will attach to almost anything rough/porus, given a bit of time.

Tks for replying lochaber,i get rid the first 2 ,they fizzzzzz,the 3rd did'nt so i'm using it,God praise my PH ^^

Set up:
Put the rocks in water that you intend using in the tank. Use water with the GH, KH, pH etc correct for the set up you will be making.

Test:
GH, KH, pH, TDS for a week or more.
If there are tiny changes, or no changes then regular weekly water changes will correct the water chemistry back to where you want it.
If there are large changes, they these rocks are not suitable for that aquarium set up. They might work for a different set up.
