Second HOB or Internal filter?

Have an aquaclear 50 for a 36gal. Looking into internals but don't know much about them/what brand to get.

Anyone with experience with either or maybe using them together?

I have a 36 gallon I used to HOB filters at first, but then got a Eheim 2213 external filter. It keeps it much cleaner. I just keep the HOB for backup.

Mine keeps it pretty clean, the second filter is mostly for extra oxygenation throughout the tank. The HOB does seem to only provide current at the top/middle. My short plants don't get much movement so they have a little bit of algae on the leaves.

In that case I'd get a good power head or circ pump. Koralia makes really good circ pumps. I have a 425 on my 29 gallon that runs in conjunction with my sunsun 302.

Internals just take up in-tank real estate, i'd go HOB or canister...
