12 Gallon "Squat"

Just got a new tank cut, fresh from the laser bed. I will try to keep this one updated, but intend to do dry start so it will probably be boring for a while.

Cut it out to fit this metal stand
I have been interested in frag tanks, as well as the ADA F-series. This seemed to fit the bill.

Dimensions are 21x15x8in

Looking at options for lighting at the moment, considering a Finnex Ray II, wither 24" or 18", will elevate the light about 6-8"

Any other suggestions?

Plan on using pressurized CO2

Looks great, I like the look of shallow rimless tanks. Did you cut it yourself, or have it cut? Its acrylic, right?

Thank you for the encouraging comments, I am currently in the phase of testing the tank for leaks and stability (excessive bowing etc)

This is 1/4" acrylic which I laser cut and glued DIY style.

Flora I am considering is HC, which I haven't tried yet, going to try dry start and see how that goes. Also looking into getting some crypts which I haven't used either, as well as some mosses. Trying to keep this tank relatively simple in terms of plant selection, and really using them wisely to create a beautiful nature scape. Aquasoil will be the substrate for this one.

Any thoughts on the light? I will probably go Ray II, and elevate it 6-8". Just need to decide on 24" or 18"...

Might want to avoid crypts, those get mighty tall. Maybe anubias?

Assuming you do co2 HC would be nice.

You might want to do 2 fugerays since its so wide rather than deep

Elevated 6" above the tank, do you think Fugerays will be enough PAR at the surface? I am starting to look at DIY LED which is another animal altogether...

Looks like at 12 inches you're looking at a par of 45 which is medium. Although yours would be 6 inches above you'd probably have at least an inch or 2 of substrate which would even out to about 12. With CO2 you could get a nice carpet I'd guess

Ordered 2 20" Fugeray fixtures.

Still fixing a couple leaks in the tank, but in the meantime, as a preventive measure I was able to cut a rim for the top:

Default Dsm time

Ok folks, time for an update on this one!

Managed to get some hardscape materials and this is what I came up with after a couple days:

FLORA:
HC
Anubias Petite
S. Repens (will go along the left side to hide some funky joints)
Some stems to grow out of the water on the left back corner, to make this tank beautiful from both the front and top since this tank is short.

The pieces of wood I bought turned out to be a little too large for my liking, and as a result the scale is slightly off, but I kind of like how it came out in the end, and will keep it if I don't get any good suggestions/critique.

HC was dry starting for a couple weeks in this tank when it was un-scaped. I simply tossed it back in after scaping.

Since this is my first time for DSM, I am going on the safe side and currently do not have any sitting water in the tank. I have to mist everything thoroughly a couple times a day, but it has been working so far.

However, I will be out of the country for a month, so before I leave, I will put about 3/4" of water in there and pray for the best upon my return. And pray.

As always, comments/critique is appreciated.

Holy crap that's amazing. Coming from keeping reefs, I have an absolute love for shallow rimless tanks. Had one for a while. Mind me asking what laser you used to cut it up?

Thanks for the comments, I'm digging it too.

Your dry start is looking good. Digging the shape of that wood as well. What kind of wood is it? Be sure to tell whoever is watching your tank to keep it moist but not too wet while you're away.
