Custom acrylic tank- What would you do

I have a guy who works with acrylic and I want him to build me a tank. I really for a long time have admired the 12 gallon long tank dimensions so i was leaning towards that as well as i think it would be easier to build as its not to tall so i dont need to spend the extra cash for the 1/2 inch acrylic.
What do you think? is that a good size?
What do you think a good price would be ?
Thanks

It depends on what you want to stock it with really. I'd go with a short long tank, but I would use it for shrimp. The 12 long has nice dimensions. As far as price, I'm at a loss, but I'm sure someone else will chime in on that.

For some reason I can't get into the 12L dimensions. I like a deeper (not taller) tank. For me, if the 12L was 12" deep, then I'd love it. But it wouldn't be a 12L anymore...lol...it would be an 18L.

For shrimp, I would concentrate on creating as much horizontal area as possible since they don't require swimming area. Basically, I would make the footprint as large as possible for the space I have, then go 8 to 12 inches high. The only other thing I'd look at is can I easily find a light to fit the length of the tank.

1/2 inch acrylic seems to be overkill for a 12 gallon tank. Check out the DIY forums on monsterfishkeepers.com, many DIY calculators for glass/acrylic thicknesses needed.

1/4" thick should be fine for that size. A while back I made a few tanks, 20L was the biggest. Still holds water.

The shop i got the acrylic from was selling the "cut offs" as scraps and i think i paid $1 per pound. The bigger pieces was perfect for the 20L.

yeah 1/2" acrylic can make some large aquariums....1$ a pound for cut off acrylic is a steal especially if its like OptiPlex. 24x24x16" is a size I like. I like the deep square, gives a lot of depth to do what ever.

The light was just for the plants, my shrimp could care less.
