Just went to a gun show today. I was looking at getting a .22 caliber gun because the ammo is so cheap. They didn't have much in the way of .22 guns though. I couldn't find any 10/22s. I ended up getting a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 for $450. I was blown away at the scarcity of 22 ammo though! I ended up getting only 150rds and that cost me $35!. I thought you could usually get 500rds for that amount of money! Guess it is just because of the shortage right now.

Just because they're not powder fired does not make them "toys" or "fake guns". This is an incredibly dangerous statement.

That said, when you buy a weapon, you need to consider if you're going to use it for personal protection or sport. Weapons are often tailored to suit a specific need.

Second, practice a lot with whatever you carry. Dry fire it. Practice (unloaded) drawing and site acquisition.

Third, get to the range. A lot.

Exactly what do you find dangerous about that statement? Airsoft and BB guns air not built to kill but more for recreation. Of course you should use similar safety measures with any kind of firearm but there is a difference between the lethality of a small plastic BB and a 12 gauge slug. I have heard some people use airsoft replicas of real weaponry to use as a tool to practice muscle memory.

I have spent a lot of time holding my new guns and getting used to all the functions. I have purchased some dummy slugs for my shotgun to get a feeling of how the gun operates when loading. My grandfather has around 30 acres of land that he shoots on from time to time so I am planning on heading out that way in a few weeks. My moms boyfreind also knows a guy who also has 20+ acres with a private shooting range he built.

I'm waiting on all my back ordered parts to get in stock and be delivered. And yes ammo is becoming a time consuming process but I have been lucky and been able to pick up about a thousand rounds in the last month or so. I'm always out running some kind of errand (bored sitting around the house all day) and stop at one of the gun shops almost daily. Most days I'm able to grab either my limit (3-5 boxes per cust per day around here) or whatever they have on the shelf.

For that price point, and a specific requirement of the fast acquisition, have you considered the EoTech 512?

Aimpoint is a 2MOA pinpoint while the EoTech is 1MOA for example as one of the differences.

I built my AR-15 in December right before all this craziness happened. It was around $800 with everything said and done. I've been trying not to shoot it lately though due to ammo being impossible to find at a decent price, if you can even find it at all.

I had one on another AR that I had years ago. It's a great sight. I like the Aimpoint for on duty though because it's always on...when the stuff hits the fan, I don't want to have to worry about turning on my optic.

I can certainly understand those little steps that add up to an eternity when it comes to addressing a situation.

I remember back in '04 or so when we were issued the Aimpoints. Dead accurate for sure, and clicking off a 300m target was quite easy. It certainly made some of our mediocre shooters more confident than with standard irons.

I grew to like the larger optic area reflex sights though for overall scanning because I like keeping both eyes open when acquiring multiple targets. We usually had a target rich environment so I was able to use the EoTech (yeah I swapped them out, some of us had the option) with my dominant eye and use my other for a constant peripheral scan at the same time.

Yeah, I did like that about the EOTech. I've never used an AimPoint so I can't say that I will like it. I just know that the AimPoint according to reputation is probably one of the three best optics you can get for an AR15...with Trijicon and EOTech being the other two.

Neat! Thanks for the answer. I asked because the terms y'all were using insinuated some type of service.
