Hydor slim heater Q

7.5W 5-1/2" x 2-1/2"

2 gallons 5F
5 gallons 4F

15W 6.2" x 3.2"

5 gallons 5F
10 gallons 4F

Does this heater kick on only when temp gets below a certain range? Or is it on 24/7? I am afraid of it overheating tank on a summer day w/o a sensor.

Which hydor slim should I have for a 2.5g and a 4.12g?

Thank you

I don't have the slim one - I have the 7.5 watt flat disk Hydor heater. I've been using it in a 2.5 gallon planted bowl for the past week. It's keeping the water at a steady 76F, and yes, I think it's on all the time. Before I put it in the bowl, the temp in the bowl was hovering between 67/68F.

Do you unplug it during the summer?

I don't know if I will or not. I'll have to watch to see any difference in temp when I turn on the A/C.

Do these hydor slims work for these setups?

2.5g - get 7.5w
4g - get 7.5w or 15w?
7.5g - get 15w?

How warm do you want the tank? What are you going to keep in there?

Just based on my own experience, I'd say "yes" to the first one.

On the second, I'd say stay with the lower wattage. I have the Hydor slim heater 10w, and it kept a 4 gallon nano way too hot - I'm talking like 85F and rising, because there is not a thermostat in these heaters.

And on the third, I'm guessing okay - but it's only a guess.

Are you reading online reviews? That's what I'd do and see what actual users have to say.
