Where to get cherry shrimp near Nashua NH

Howdy folks. I am interested in starting a nano shrimp tank. Actually I already have the tank setup. It is about 4.7 gallons, has a heater and a tiny Toms filter. It is planted with Java Moss on a piece of wood as well as some water sprite and a couple of other things.

I want a small red shrimp to put in this tank. I saw at a restaurant a couple of years ago a tank slightly larger than mine that must have had hundreds of tiny red shrimp. This would be a cherry shrimp, yes ? How many could I have in this size tank ?

I have looked at the local national chain pet stores and none of them had any small shrimp. One place had a bamboo filter shrimp, but that is not what I am looking for. I also went to a store down in Framingham MA and they did not have any.

Is there someone local that wants to sell some shrimp ?
Is there a store somewhere nearby that sells shrimp ?

I can see I can mail order some shrimp for about a $1 a piece but I am concerned about the weather. It was 18F outside this morning here.

You really won't find any shrimps around mass or NH in the petstores you will have to buy online or someone local. And if you do find some they will usually run you more than $1 a piece at the store's.

There is a pet store by my house which charges 10 bucks per cherry shrimp...not even kidding. Your best deals will come from the internet.

The stores are generally $5 and up. There was someone in Littleton MA selling them in that price range but their craigslist ad is gone.

What you saw could have been RCS or opae Ula shrimp (even smaller, but also red). In either case you can easily put 10 shrimp per gallon in a tank. Most people fit more without any problems either.

I would just order some shrimp on this forum. Just ask the seller to include a 72hr heatpack and the shrimp will do perfectly fine. Just don't leave the box they ship in sitting outside at 18F for a few hours. I make sure to be home the days the packages arrive, or have someone pick them up for me.

There has been a guy on the Boston craigslist that is selling red cherry shrimp 40 for $20. He's in Littleton, but maybe worth the drive down. Seems like it would be just over a half hour one way.

I'm working on starting a colony to provide RCS. I'm in Keene NH. I'm expecting a batch soon, so if your still looking in a month or so let me know!

The only place I've seen selling shrimplets had a few of the blue and red ones for 8 dollars each. Personally, I like to buy them more than a couple at a time so it's nice that folks here sell them in batches.

I know this thread is old, but I'm also looking for cherry shrimp in southern New Hampshire. The retail store prices are crazy!
