Cichlid with a white lip?

My friend sent me this pic asking what's wrong with his fish.....I haven't had a sick fish in years I have no clue what it is. I told him to try some melafix until I can I.d. What the problem is.

Unfortunately he does not take the best care of his fish(no matter how hard I try to help him) this fish was 10-12" last time I saw it and he was keeping it in a 40g unplanted tank I don't think he does wc like he should either an he feeds this guy 20 feeder gold fish a week.

I took this opportunity to hound him more about getting a larger tank and keeping up on wc's does anyone know what's wrong this poor guy?

Oops thought I posted the pic it's a flower horn ph is 8.2, nitrates are 20 temp is 80. These are the only parameters he has. On a good note he had moved the fish to larger tank 55g

I have a Giant Danio with a white blister of some sort on his lip. My friend says it's cottonmouth. I can't find any info on what or how its caused. looks like cottonmouth to me

Not a great pic but tbh, it looks like it got its mouth scratched up or bitten. Should heal in time with clean water and the like. Maybe add some aquarium salt since I feel that it helps (though some may disagree with me....if they can explain it though listen to them lol)

melafix is great too. If the white spreads all over his mouth, then its cottonmouth, but from the pic it looks like a cut.

Man, yeah tell him a 75g is needed at least for a fish of that size. He should just rehome it to someone with a huge tank. 12" fish in a 55g, even that is too small lol, and flower horns can get nasty.
