The impeller is cheap, but if you want, you can trim the fins down yourself. Google is your friend. If I was settled on a HOB, I'd get the 30 and modify to suit my needs. My 2 cents

the addiction continues...

i run two tanks with the azoo mignon 90. one is on a cylinder and the other is on a deep blue 5 partition betta tank. If you can afford the space, i recommend going a step up with an aquaclear. the water turn over will be more beneficial than any sponge filter could offer.

This isn't an argument. Merely pointing out the pros/cons.

Switching the impeller is a neat idea but why... He doesn't have a spare impeller laying around. If you have to buy the filter who wants to buy a new impeller also?

I have a 20 & 30 and there is no noise diff in mine. My ac110 is the loudest...

flow seems to be his biggest concern. So I recommend the ac20. It is good to note that you need a ac30 if u want purgen.

OK, but nothing wrong with a argument now and then

I still think a 30 would be to big for a 5g if its say a Betta tank. If its for fish that can handle current the by all means get the biggest one you can.
