I've gotten java ferns a couple times from Petsmart, haven't had a single case of them melting, though it wasn't unusual in getting them mounted to break a couple leaf stems leading to a few of leaves dying.

I got some java fern from petsmart in a tube a couple weeks ago. No melting at all, they are very hardy plants.

The Anubias from there is very good also, and the Crypt Wendtii Green - Didn't melt at all for me, planted it as one blob and it turned into a nice dense 'bush'
