DIY T5HO question - anyone have experience with this fixture?

Good morning all,

I was in my local Home Depot and came across these fixtures marked with a "NEW!" tag. $40 for a two light fixture seemed awful cheap for T5HO.

Anyone have any experience with them? I'm considering rigging two of them up above a 55 gallon.

Thanks in advance!

There isn't a reflector, makes a huge difference in how much light goes into the tank.

This type has had several threads about it, apparently the reflectors are very nice so the PAR is impressive. See the sticky thread in the lighting forum for more info. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lithonia-...9#.UVmlHVfWcx4

I woulf definetly not recomment the first one. I had it and the ballast went out fast. Also it is not rust resistant at all and doesn't have any reflector

Default DIY T5HO question - anyone have experience with this fixture?

Try the Arcadia ballasts, here in the uk I spent about £35 for a twin 54w lighting controller

T5HO lights get most of their light intensity from reflectors. With no reflectors you should get about 30-40% of the intensity you get with a good T5HO light. You would do better buying Odyssea lights.
