i just read somewhere that these fish have a life span of a little over one year.
is this true?

I've had mine for about 8 months also. Ask again in 6 months and Michael and I can let you know then.

Both of mine lasted about a year and then died.. for no particular reason (that I could determine). So its possible, I'll see what I can find
