Light Recomendation

What light fixture would be the best for my situation? I'm looking ti light a 75 gallon tank that will have mostly low-medium light plants( a few anubias, java ferns, amazon swords, jungle vals).

Maybe a T5NO dual bulb fixture... I think T5HO would put you out of low and more towards medium-high but its just a guesstimate.

I would recommend a Catalina Aquarium single bulb 1x54W T5HO. This should keep you in the low-med light. Catalina makes excellent fixtures with very good reflectors. Service is great and quality is top notch. Many people here have CA fixtures and they come highly recommended. Here is the link for the 1X54W fixture:

If you buy, don't forget to also purchase fixture legs.

I like the look and the price on that catalina. How often would the bulb need to be replaced?

Hello El...

A couple of 48 inch, 6500K, T12s at 40 watts per is plenty for a low to moderate light tank. That's that I use. You'll get decent light and the light will be distributed over a wide area.

You'll be limited on the plants, though. I keep Anubias nana or nangi, and Java fern for the bottom and float Anacharis (Brazilian waterweed) and Pennywort.

You'll need stronger light if you want the Swords and Vallisneria to grow well. You may want to look into a fixture that holds three bulbs.

The 18 inch front to back depth means a single T5 light isn't likely to light up the whole substrate at all evenly, and plants will tend to grow towards the light, towards the middle of the tank. I would use either more light, but hanging a foot or so above the tank for more spread of the light, two light fixtures widely spaced on top of the tank, or a single light, by Catalina, with two bulbs that are about 8 inches apart.
