AH Supply Linear 54W for low light?

Has anyone tried AH supplies linear kit on its own. The website suggests using them in combonation with there bright kits to bump up the par a little. For instance to go from medium to high instead of medium to too high if you double the bright kits. But I am thinking as popular and common as low light tanks are now can you just use the linear kit by itself on say a 55 gallon and achieve low light?

Hi bradlgt21,

Looking at one of Hoppy's old charts I would estimate with a 1X54 watt Bright Lights kit a PAR reading of about 60 at the substrate level (medium light) but you could certainly manipulate the photoperiod and achieve the results you want.

I have the 54w T5 linear kit installed in a diy rain gutter fixture over my 55g tank. Imho these kits use the highest quality reflectors and ballasts. I found a single 6500K bulb pleasing to the eye, as well as, very high in intensity. I'm not running co2. Therefore, I started having problems with BBA. Even with the the light raised 1' over the tank, I'm still battling it. I will, probably, re-do this tank more high tech in the near future.

While balancing on a piece of wood, two inches by four inches known as a 2x4, John and his friend Sally both spotted a dalmatian inside of a truck with sirens. The animal with John and Sally is a _ _ _?
