Re: ridgewood aquarium

Their facebook page states they are open wed - sat.
Wed: 12:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Thu - Sat: 11:00 am - 8:00 pm

https://www.facebook.com/RidgewoodAquariumImports/info

Their website (http://www.ridgewoodaquariumimports.com) allows for the booking of appointments however there's nothing about only open by appointment only...

I hope they update their website and facebook page soon

I hope so too. The sign simply said "Now by appointment only", which to me means every day. It stinks!

Good grief. You sure about this price? Per unit price that would be more than my manhattan condominium.

Last time , the owner told me that price , but I do not know does he change price or not. Red dragon is always expensive , and it does not look like you can buy it from any store . You have to know this is illegal fish . Even , you have $10,000 in your pocket , but he won't sell it to you ----> cause he does not know who are u ?

There's no point in getting one unless you get a permit and a documented fish. The cost of buying one plus the fines associated with being caught are crazy huge.

if there was ever a raid and you had the fish, it would sort of be like an unsinkable turd in the toilet... so dont even go there.

You can get cheap price by buy a eggs bag. It costs $500 per bag , and breed it. If you are lucky, then you will get fry red dragon. ----->gambling

Yeah jimmy, but the fine for having one is $50,000 and a year in prison.

So the only natural question that stands now is WHY are they illegal? They aren't endangered from what I've found. Do they ship them over here stuffed full of crack?? Al, now THAT would be an unsinkable turd! Pun intended.

I'm curious - why are they illegal in the US?

They're an endangered species. Their popularity in the 1970s led to heavy fishing and reduction in wild populations. While there are breeding programs in east Asia, it seems that getting one isn't as easy as making a few calls. Supposedly, the US law stems from the reluctance of breeders to release a fish for every fish that they sell, which makes sense seeing as these fish fetch upwards of $10,000.

It's a pity, I believe they're legal in our friendly neighbor country up north. I'd love to own one if it were legal and I had the dough. I guess I'm ignorant but I never thought a LFS in chinatown would have any, you know, since they're illegal... I think I know which one it might be

Has anyone checked out Win recently? Or maybe 123, don't remember, but they have a tank full of what's labeled as flying foxes but I'm not so sure, could be SAE but I could be wrong.
