GBR are a fish of choice for me but my LFS sells them for $30...

I'll probably get some gourami then. One question though... How do I tell male from female? I want a pair but IDK how to sex them.

There is a ram breeder on this forum that sells them for a great price! PM Matt13 (GBRs are $5 from him)

Gouramis can get territorial, as can GBR's when breeding. Up that school of neons to 10 and go with a school cherry barbs. You can throw a couple of sparkling gouramis as they stay small.

Are you sure those aren't electric blue rams? If your lfs is selling regular german blues for $30, he/she should be dragged outside and beaten.

I believe the way to sex gbr's is the female has a pinkish hue near the belly area (when they are adults). Don't quote me on that, but someone will chime in I'm sure.

Totally forgot about these (and I'm about to pick some up myself, DOH!)......micro rasboras like chilis. There are also kubatois (sp?) which are yellow-green. The chilis are red. You can do a school of 15 or so along with a bigger school of neons.

I got some dwarf honey gouramis and a few more neon tetras as well. Gonna pick up a few more neon tetras.

Can I add other kinds of gouramis, or will they not get along with the dwarf honeys? Would killifish work with this community?

That's true. The dorsal fin on males also extends farther back and is more pointed than the female's.
