Problems woth my new 75
I recently had to breakdown my 55 gallon after the center brace broke.
Before I get to the problem, let me give you some parameters: 75gallon standard 48x18x24 2 H.O.T. magnum Filter w/ sponge prefilters. 6 28watt 6,700K bulbs DIY CO2 (2liter, yeast, sugar) Flourite/floramax substrate Osmocote substrate tabs Liquid dosing Aquavitro ferts per direction Now my problem. With this move my main worry has been the livestock. The stress of the move combined with what was esentiall a 50% water change. Everyone it's doing just fine. Unfortunately, it's my plants that seem to be suffering. My crypts (edpecially my Usteriana) have holes all over their leaves. Most of my lotus leaves are disintegrating. Some of my sword leaves are browning. What do I do? Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2 |

my first two thoughts would be how long was it from taking the plants out of one tank till they were planted in the second tank. secondly when you uproot plants even if its just moving them within the same tank they are going to have to settle back in, so its going to affect them short term.
crypts, lotus and swords are all pretty resilient, give them a bit of time and they should bounce back just fine. will lose some of the mature leaves but new ones should fill back in. |

Also, not sure if DIY co2 is really going to make any noticeable difference in a 75.
Could just be from move or needing more nutrients

They were out of the tank for about 2 hours.....Everything but the Usteriana seems to be adjusting.

DIY CO2 would make a definite difference. It may not be strictly consistent and plentiful as pressurized but it's better than no CO2 at all. I would recommend making a DIY set up with 2 (2 liter) bottles. The differences may not be night and day but it will promote healthier looking flora.

I've thought about doubling, but idk. I'd like to find someone who is getting out of the hobby to sell me their CO2 system for yardsale prices. Lol

One of saddest moments in aquarium keeping career.....cutting nearly all the leaves off of my usteriana. I couldn't allow them to just sit and rot away any further.

Me to, they were gorgeous. They're trimmed down to one new leaf on each plant. Hopefully the plant will devote extra nutrients to the new growth, now that I've removed the dying leaves.

BTW - If you click on my "40" journal, you see you don't need Excel or CO2 to grow Crypts.
