Which light for my Mini M?

I'm upgrading the lighting on my mini m, and I want to know what you guys think!

Solar Mini M: expensive, can be hard to get, but well established and no parts go inside the tank.

Aquasky: slim, high light. Might be too much light. (?). Will cloud after a few years, cause it's made of acrylic. Expensive.

Finnex ray 2: slim, minimal in tank parts, but might not be enough light for my needs. Cheap.

DIY cree led: Cheap, adjustable, can be really slim, can have no parts in tank, color might be a problem. Might take too long.

Archaea 27w: bright, cheap, slim, just has a massive clip.

Suggest something else!

Bump, FR2 is in the lead! What about the brightness...

I'd vote for one of the Finnex or buildmyled.com fixtures honestly. The acrylic on my aquasky looks terrible. It's got a ridiculous number of cracks from I don't even know what. :/

Thank you! Anyways, aquaskies look like a UFO landed on your tank.

I agree with freph , I also took great care of my aquasky but it had cracks after a month for no apparent reason.

(not my pic, but this is what mine was looking like)

My vote goes for the Mini M Solar on clearance right now at AFA:
http://www.adana-usa.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=195

It maintains the true rimless look, swivels for easy tank maintenance, has a base for the tank to sit on and overall looks fantastic.

....$189? Why on earth did you have to post that....it's hard enough to resist buying things as it is and AFA does this?

Also, interesting that I'm not the only one with that issue. I wonder if it has to do with the heating of the fixture and potential contact with water....or just the nature of acrylic and heat. I'm not sure. I really wish ADA would've made a better fixture because the cracks completely ruin the aesthetics. An LED variation of the Solar Mini would've been awesome...

Back on topic:
Finnex /did/ release a newish light. Check out the FugeRAY-R.

Oh yes and the Solar Mini is made in Japan. The AQUASKY is made in China. Maybe since ADA is outsourcing a lot of their stuff now (glass pipes, tanks, lights, tools) they have less quality control? It cuts cost for them, but the end product is still the same price and lesser quality.

Well unless you live in Japan, then a 361 AQUASKY would only cost you: $100.

I do miss the old ADA logo, the German starfire tanks (clearer than the current ones) and the Japan craftsmanship.

A dimmable LED Solar Mini made in Japan would have been the best solution.

If you're worried that the ray 2 would not be enough light, the mail the fugeray r definitely won't be enough.

The Ray 2 is pretty bright. The 16" one lights up my 12" tall tank really well. I want to use it for my 1.5gal, but it's too long and if I were to adjust the legs, it would cover up a good amount of LEDs. Plus it would overhang by a good 4" on each side. It would just look ridiculous.

If I consider getting the solar mini I should consider the aquaray mini tile. If you vote for that vote below.
