Friggin' Java fern melt!

Anybody know any solutions besides removing affected leaves & hoping for the best? The plants bounced back & formed nice mats after melting about a year ago, but here we go again!

Only Flourish Excel. This always comes from out of the blue. The plants are doing great, no major changes in lighting or water parameters, then BAM! I'm very stubborn & hate to admit defeat, but this is very discouraging. If anyone can think of a better alternative to Java fern I'd really appreciate it.
