Glosso - planting for a carpet

Hello planters...

I have discovered that I have some glosso in my fairly new tank. It came bunched in one grouping. I am trying to get my glosso to spead out and cast a low carpet as I have seen in all of your wonderful gallery photos (those who have included glosso carpets in their scheme).

So, how would i BEST get this result?

I have searched the forums as I am sure this topic has been covered. Unfortunately, I must be blind or searching with poor tactic.

Thank you for your inputs in advance!

Welcome on having one of the plant that amano uses a lot.

You need to separate a string of runners into individual plantlet and grab the roots and insert them gentley insert them into substrate. Remember too proper lighting , CO2 and of course your Macro and Micro. Good Luck

Yup, a real back killer but well worth it in the long run!

hahah!

I can already feel my back ache already!

It's a tight bundle and they look really healthy. I guess it all comes down to seperating them and leaving them in scattered single placement in the areas I want covered... Any recommendation on distance from each other?

Create an imaginary grid 1" x 1" in the area you want them to cover. Plant a stem of glosso in each square of your grid. Any leftover plantlets get planted in the areas of your grid where there will be the least amount of light penetration (and thus the slowest growth).

If you have good lighting and Co2 and know that it will grow quickly, the way I always planted it was take out the best looking plantlets out of the big clump and bury them individually, making sure the actual leaves are above the substrate. Keeping the roots as buried as possible helps ensure that it will grow tightly to the substrate, rather than barely hanging on as it grows. Do what the other guy said and plant in an imaginary 1"x1" plot, or whatever size you want. Chances are you won't use all of the glosso you have, but if conditions are right, you won't need to. I usually just used maybe 10% of what I ripped up after it became a dense mat and the rest was thrown away or sold. If conditions are right, it'll come back in no time.

Excellent! Thank you all for your input! I will try this right away, well after i resolve my current "water bug" related issue.

I look forward to the glosso results as my tank seems to be otherwise thriving and growing well at this time. Yes, I co2 dose and fert regularly too!

I split up and spread out the glosso randomly as you suggested and now we wait and see!

I think I read somewhere someone said that they plant about 3 stems together instead of just one. Maybe this was to allow for any stems that don't make it and die. Or just to allow it to fill in faster. I don't know.
