It would only make sense. Amano shrimp are very hard to breed in captivity and 99% of them are wild caught. The expense of catching them and getting them to the U.S. is more expensive now so the price has to be raised so profit can be made.

In the past the $1.50 "algae eater" shrimp in that tank have either been wild type RCS or, what i think I got, Malawa shrimp

since foreva! He brands them as algae eater shrimp, which pretty much describes all shrimps.

Prices have been bumped up as last i checked.

I get my Amano shrimp out of Taiwan, and the freight cost/handling charge from there to New York has gone up considerably. Hence the price increase.

Interestingly, the price of the shrimp from the exporter has increased only a few pennies over the last five or six years. It's the freight that's the killer.

Like Oz said above, I also thought the "algae eater" shrimps at Win were only the wild-strain neocaridinas. They usually kept them in their crayfish tank from what I recall.

I had no idea those were mini Amanos. LOL

The little ones from win most likely are not amanos, but the one and only one i brought home is, you just have to look closer, it could be in any one of their tanks.

the pair i bought from aquastar have berried a few times, though none survive. i find comfort knowing they feel comfortable enough in my tank to do the deed.
