Dirted bowl

I set up a new planted bowl last night. I decided to try the dirted method.
The substrate is miracle grow organic potting mix with a bit of laterite I had
laying around. I capped it off with pool filter sand.

Plants:
-micro sword?
-anubia barteri broad leaf?
-crypt wendtii
-moneywort?
-Background plant... I forgot the name already

I really wish I would have planted more heavily. I also need to get
a better light for it. I have a desk lamp right now but im having trouble
finding the right cfl for it. might just have to go with one of the bulbs from
petco. Im also planing on adding some mystery snails and some frog bit
if I can get my hands on any.

Try a hardware store like Lowes or Order online. I have eben foumd some at discount stores like Big lots... they emmit 23W at 6500k (daytime) range. I use industrial aluminum clamps

Nice looking bowl!

I have a similar sized bowl. My light is an 11w cfl GE indoor flood light 6700k temp, that I put in a desk lamp. I found it at Wal-mart.

My plants have been growing very well under it.

I have a question for you.

Are you testing your water chemistry? The reason I ask is because I started a dirted bowl last night, and I've been reading that the nutrients in the soil can cause a ~surprise~ nitrate spike.

I haven't done any tests yet, and was curious...

Great looking bowl.

If you have Loews look there they have 6500k bulbs with various wattages.

i like it alot, im working on a dirted bowl myself

as far as the bulb, just dont give up...

took a bit of calling but i found them finally at lowes and ace hardware by me
