Has anyone used aluminum foil tape with their lighting; as in putting it on the top side of each bulb to reflect light down? Good or Bad idea, especially in a ODNO setup?

I tried it years ago when I had a reef got the idea from a URI bulb with an internal reflector. I never noticed a difference with or without the tape, though.

I'd be concerned about overheating ODNO bulbs by putting tape on them.

I tried it. Very big difference in the temperature of the bulbs. Not much difference in the light level. You guys were right on; the bulbs did seem on the verge of overheating. I removed what tape I could. Luckily I was about to try some new bulbs anyway. Chalk this one up in the experience column.

as i have posted before, i lined my diy canopy with this tape to serve as a ground.

i had never thought to put the tape on the bulbs though. thanks for sharing your experience.

rex has said that aluminum foil makes a lousy relector. this stuff might increase relectivity a bit though. even if it doesn't, i'm keeping it there as a ground.

regards.

I tried it as well. Like Sam said, no change...

Rex is right; better to paint the reflective surface a pure white than use aluminum foil.
