Alvse's 4ft Eheim Opal
My Eheim Opal 120 arrived the other day.
3 side Starphire glass 120x50x60, 360L ![]() Added hardscape and substrate (ADA Amazonia).... ![]() Added the plants (don't ask me what they all are, I know there is swords, hairgrass, HC, and Riccia in there) ![]() ![]() ![]() So... time to let it settle and cycle, hopefully none of the plants will dislodge. After it's cycled, I will be migrating the fish from my old tank (200L 4ft). Running an Eheim 2215, and adding a secon (from old tank) once fish are moved over. And... day 3... Ammonia levels at about 4ppm Nitrite 0ppm Nitrates 0ppm Day 3 Side view ![]() Front View ![]() Close Ups ![]() ![]() Currently at day 6 and noticing brown dusty algae (diatoms), also some white growth forming on the substrate and on the glass and cloudiness of water (water has been clear till now). I'm thinking bacterial bloom? Ammonia levels at about 1ppm Nitrite 0ppm Nitrates 20ppm Currently on a 50% daily water change |

I really like the scape. I think my next setup will have a similar feel with a large "Root system" on one side transitioning into a rocky layout. I really the over all set up.

Awesome scape! Very cool how you went from a forest with the dark substrate and driftwood to a beach area with rocks and sand! Subbed!
Congrats on the angel eggs as well!

Thanks for the comments!
The substrate is separated mainly by the rock-scape, there really is only about an inch or 2 of interface between the difference substrates where they can mix. |

Just an update...
Removed the HC, it wasn't really growing too well, and the fish kept pulling them out. The angel fish also ate all the Riccia Have planted Glosso instead and has taken root and slowly spreading. Also put in more hairgrass. I've re-arranged the rock wall slightly and added some new pieces to give it a bit more bulk. Added a temporary set of2xT8 lights to give the plants a little boost. Water is a bit hazy after disturbing some soil and scrubbing the rock faces. Side View ![]() Front View ![]() Close Ups ![]() ![]() Full View ![]() The engine room

Lovely tank. I think a few corydoras would love those caves.
